DEIR AL-BALAH : As geopolitical tensions continue escalating across the Middle East, international
media outlets shifted focus this week to what experts are calling “the far more important issue”:
whether enough emotional validation is being provided to Gaza’s surfing community.
The feature story, titled “Surfers Find Joy Riding Waves During War”, immediately triggered emotional
responses from journalists worldwide, many of whom reportedly had not blinked in over 14 months
while covering the conflict.
“This isn’t about politics anymore,” said one visibly shaken Western reporter while adjusting a $4,300
camera vest. “This is about the universal human right to shred.”
According to sources, three surviving surfboards are now considered “critical cultural infrastructure” and
may soon receive protected UNESCO status alongside ancient historical landmarks.

One activist group has already proposed a $94 million international aid package to construct:

  • trauma-informed surf ramps
  • climate-inclusive beach yoga zones
  • a multilingual “safe space lighthouse”
  • and a carbon-neutral meditation pier

Meanwhile, several American college students changed their Instagram profile pictures to waves in
solidarity.

The White House responded cautiously to the situation.
“We are monitoring the surfing conditions very closely,” a spokesperson stated. “The President remains
committed to a two-state solution and clean barrel curls.”

In response, the United Nations announced an emergency summit titled:

“Waves, Wellness, And Decolonizing Aquatic Recreation”

The summit will reportedly include:

  • healing drum circles
  • anti-colonial paddleboarding workshops
  • and a keynote speech called *‘From Intifada To Hang Ten’

At press time, CNN had interrupted coverage of inflation, border security, and rising crime rates to air a
47-minute special titled:

“SURVIVING THE STORM: Voices From Gaza’s Surf Community”

featuring slow-motion footage of waves, emotional piano music, and at least four drone shots of
seagulls.
